Come, my love, and take the wings of night
To catch the sprinkled stars along thy flight.
The high road,
The blood road,
From the world's beginning.
Come ride the wind with me
Until the stars are dimming.

Come run with me along the edge of heaven's fire – By Elena

Part 6: In the Living Room, By the Fireplace

The day was slowly coming to an end but the season was still alive and thriving with New Year’s just around the corner.

And, in the peaceful setting of the night when everything was silent again except for the crackling of the wood in the fireplace, the most unique couple sat on their living room couch wrapped in each other’s arms in front of the fireplace watching the movie a Christmas carol on television.

Justin and Sasha were in their most relaxed state after cleaning the mess they made in the living room the night before, dressed in robes and nothing else as Sasha laid snuggly against Justin’s chest, their limbs tangled as they enjoyed each other’s company.

“Scrooge is the best. The story’s kind of getting old though.” Justin chuckled as he paid close attention to the scene where the first ghost, the ghost of Christmas past visited Ebenezer Scrooge in his slumber.

“Are you kidding? This is a Christmas classic. It’s been around for years!” Sasha spoke up with her eyes trained on the television screen even if she saw the tale countless time as well as the play.

“Oh I know. I was around when the story was first published in the eighteen hundreds.” Justin beamed proudly and Sasha rolled her eyes humorously at him.

“Uh huh, so was I mister ‘I’ve been around for centuries.’ Sometimes I think you love this life a little too much.” She joked remembering how Justin always complained about wishing they were a normal ‘human’ couple.

“Well you can’t blame me. We get to live forever. I’ve gotten used to it.” He shrugged.

“We don’t live forever Justin; we live until the end of time and hope that our dark souls will be spared the clutches of hell.”

“Yeah well, que sera sera.” Justin shrugged, never really caring to discuss their fate.

He was over the wailing and wishing they weren’t of the dark forces that lurked in the shadows. Now, he was focused on living the best life he could with his love and really, nothing else mattered to him.

Sighing, Sasha continued watching the movie in silence until Justin broke into her concentration. “You don’t regret making the choices you did right Sash? I mean giving up your life to be with me?”

“Of course not Justin, how can you even think that?” Sasha looked up into his azures, a warm smile gracing her features. “I’d be dead today without you. I love you…nothing, not even our nature is going to change that. We’re together and that’s all that matters.” She affirmed and Justin grinned brightly while kissing the top of her forehead.

“Yeah, I feel the same way.” He agreed.

“Good.” Sasha beamed, diverting her attention to the television screen again.

“You know, I’m really loving and getting into this holiday spirit. We’re certainly doing this again next year no questions asked. I mean how often do we get to just sit back like this by the fireplace without a care or worry in the world?” Justin asked brightly and Sasha sighed contently.

“Not often.” She admitted, knowing that they actually had busy lives.

Justin was the owner of a fine arts museum and Sasha was a professional painter. Their careers always kept them busy but it was part of what they did to stay occupied so they couldn’t really complain. Over the years, they acquired many skills which they put to good use such as sharing their talents with others.

“I got something for you.” Justin added in before sticking his hand into his robe pocket. Carefully, he pulled out the item and placed it in Sasha’s line of sight, her eyes widening with surprise.

“Oh you sneaky devil, when did you do this?” She asked as she sat up so Justin could put on her gift.

“While I was out, I went to pick it up at the jewelers’.” He explained, the both of them sitting up to face each other. Examining her neck, Justin nodded in approval. “It looks beautiful on you…lovely…”

Cheesing, Sasha toyed with the pendant which hung from the necklace on her neck. It was a diamond necklace with a red ruby pendant shaped like a heart. “I love it Justin…thank you.” Sasha spoke softly, leaning over to place a tender kiss on his lips.

Moaning with satisfaction, Justin pulled away and licked at his lips lightly before grinning at her. “You’re welcome. It’s so you know that you’ll always have my heart in this life and in the next. Nothing is ever going to change that…I love you sweetheart.”

“Aw, I love you too. Oh my gosh, don’t make me cry, you know we cry blood, I’ll stain my robe.” Sasha joked and Justin chuckled before pulling her back into his embrace to lie with him again.

“Ok I’m done with the mushy softness.” He assured as they gave the television screen their attention once more.

“Now I feel bad that I didn’t get you anything.” Sasha pouted, the tip of her tongue tapping her fangs in thought. “The season’s not over yet so…I still have time.” She thought but Justin interrupted her.

“Baby, just being here with you…just having you with me is enough.”

“I know but I still want to give you something.” Sasha protested.

“Ok fine…we’ll talk about it…but part of my request is you modeling in some lacy red lingerie.” Justin laughed, the tremor of his chuckles causing Sasha to smack his chest good-naturedly.

“Oh hush, whatever. We’ll work on it.”

“We most definitely will.” Justin confirmed.

“Merry Christmas Justin.” Sasha said in a hushed tone, gazing at the large clock which read eleven fifty-eight pm.

“I feel like, the whole Christmas thing isn’t fully suiting since I respect the entire aspect of the holiday.” Justin voiced and Sasha shook her head, urging him to continue as her eyes slowly fluttered shut, relishing in their closeness. “I think…a Merry, or happy ‘Vampmas’ is more suiting.” Justin busted out into laugher at his word invention and Sasha giggled in return. He was too much sometimes…but she adored that side of him.

“Vampmas Justin?” She asked incredulously, her eyes still shut tight as she felt drowsiness taking over.

“Yeah, I mean it suits us. We’re Vampires and ‘tis the season right? So, Merry Vampmas.” He spoke enthusiastically, his fingers playing with loose strands of her hair.

“Ok…” Sasha agreed. “That’s very original…and a little weird…but ok.” She reiterated, her small soft hand moving to pass through his short curls before it rested on his broad chest as she got more comfortable.

Gazing down at her, Justin smirked, knowing she’d be knocked out cold in a matter of minutes.

“Merry Vampmas J.” Sasha giggled, giving Justin a light affectionate squeeze.

Darting his eyes over to the grandfather clock which now read eleven fifty-nine with only seconds to go before the official day was over, Justin stretched out his limbs and got more relaxed beneath Sasha, his appreciation and love for her shining through his sparkling blues.

“Merry Vampmas baby…to us here and now, because there’s no place I’d rather be than right here with you in my arms on one of the coldest nights in the year…”
